LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a procedure designed to address localized areas of excess fat.. You are potentially a candidate for this procedure if you have localized areas of excess fat which are resistant to dieet and exercise.

General information:

  • Purpose:  To remove localized areas of excess fat

  • Types of liposuction

    • traditional
    • tumescent - saline solution containing a local anesthetic is infused into the area prior to suctioning, to decrease post-operative discomfort, bruising and swelling
    • power-assisted
    • ultrasound-assisted


  • Treatment areas:  Areas commonly treated include the chin, abdomen, back, waist, flanks, hips, thighs and knees


  • Incisions:  Approximately 1/4" in length, can usually be placed within natural skin creases


  • Length of surgery: 1 - 3 hours, depending on the number of areas treated - outpatient


  • Anesthesia:  General


  • Recovery: Most activities can be resumed within a few weeks, while strenuous exercise will take longer. Final results may take six months or longer.
