BREAST REDUCTION (reduction mammoplasty)

Large, pendulous breasts may result in a variety of medical problems, including neck, shoulder and back pain, as well as skin irritation and grooving in the shoulders caused by bra straps. Breast reduction can provide significant relief, as well as result in smaller, firmer breasts with better shape and better proportion to the rest of the body.

General information:

  • Purpose:  To decrease breast size and weight by removing excess skin, fat and glandular tissue. The result is usually improvement in back, shoulder and neck discomfort.

  • Length of surgery:  Approximately 4 hours (outpatient)

  • Anesthesia:  General

  • Recovery:  Usually back to work within two weeks (may vary depending on occupation).

  • Insurance coverage:  The procedure may be covered by your medical insurance, depending on your specific insurance company and plan.
